Farm Experience : Garumae Village, Yangpyeong

Farm experience is an event arranged by Ewha PEACE Buddy for exchange students. The farm is located in Garumae Village (가루매마을), Yangpyeong. It took about 2-3 hours from Seoul to get there. We are divided into several groups, and I’m in group A on that day.

First, we went to try making Injeolmi (인절미). Injeolmi is being made by sticky rice. We got a chance to try to smash the sticky rice. After it’s done, the guide took the sticky rice and give dried nut powder into it and cut it into small pieces and VOILA! Injeolmmi is done.

After we made Injeolmi, we went to pear jam making session. So basically they already prepared the base for pear jam, because it took a lot of time if we have to make it from scratch. So what we just shaved the pears that has been given and put it in the pan and mixed it with the base. Also adding some sugar, and stir it until it’s done.

At first I thought that pear jam is really weird, because I’ve never seen any pear jam before, but it turns out it was really GOOD! And I’m so happy that I can bring it back to my dorm. FYI the pear jam doesn’t use any chemical ingredients and the guide said that it is less sugar rather than the jam that are being sold in the market.

After we are done with making the pear jam, we went to tried hanbok and got a chance to tried tractor. After that we went to eat lunch.

After lunch, we tried to make a “gun” by using chopsticks. It was really fun!

After that we can tried some korean traditional games by ourselves and then we went to pick pears and bring it home;)
